PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Numbers and Operations

  • Kindergarten-2nd Grade
  • Count with understanding and recognize "how many" in sets of objects
  • use multiple models to understand place value and the base-ten system
  • understand the relative position and magnitude of whole numbers and of cardinal, and ordinal numbers

NUMBERS AND OPERATIONS CONT...

  • Develop flexibility with numbers (relating, composing, and decomposing numbers)
  • Connect number words and numerals to the quantities they represent
  • Understand and represent commonly used fractions, such as 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2

ALGEBRA

  • Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
  • Sort, classify, and order objects (by size, number, height, weight, etc.)
  • Describe, extend, and generate repeating and growing patterns
  • Understand the meaning of the equal sign

GEOMETRY

  • Kindergarten-2nd Grade
  • Recognize, name, build, draw, and sort 2D and 3D shapes
  • Describe attributes and parts of 2D and 3D shapes
  • Investigate and predict the results of putting together and taking apart 2D and 3D shapes

MEASUREMENT

  • Kindergarten-2nd Grade
  • Recognize the attributes of length, volume, weight, area, and time
  • Compare and order objects based on those attributes
  • Understand how to measure using both standard and non standard units
  • Select an appropriate unit and tool for the attribute being measured

DATA ANALYSIS AND PROBABILITY

  • Kindergarten-2nd Grade
  • Pose questions and gather data
  • Sort and classify objects according to their attributes and organize data about the objects
  • Represent data using concrete objects, pictures, and graphs

NUMBERS AND OPERATIONS

  • 3rd Grade-5th Grade
  • Understand the place value structure of the base ten system and be able to represent and compare whole numbers and decimals
  • Recognize equivalent representations for the same number and generate them by decomposing and composing numbers

NUMBERS AND OPERATIONS CONT...

  • Understand fractions as parts of wholes, as parts of a collection, as locations on number lines, and as division of whole numbe
  • Use models, benchmarks, and equivalent forms to judge the size of fractions

NUMBERS AND OPERATIONS CONT...

  • Recognize and generate equivalent forms of commonly used fractions, decimals, and percents
  • Explore numbers less than 0 by extending the number line
  • Describe classes of numbers according to characteristics (prime, composite, negative integers and positive integers, fractions, rational and irrational numbers, etc.)

ALGEBRA

  • 3rd Grade-5th Grade
  • Describe, extend, and make generalizations about geometric and numeric patterns
  • Represent and analyze patterns and functions using words and tables
  • Understand the meaning of the equal sign

GEOMETRY

  • 3rd Grade - 5th Grade
  • Identify, compare, and analyze attributes of 2D and 3D shapes and develop vocabulary to describe the attributes
  • Classify 2D and 3D shapes according to their properties

GEOMETRY CONT...

  • Investigate, describe, and reason about the results of subdividing, combining, and transforming shapes
  • Explore congruence and similarity
  • Make and test conjectures about geometric properties and relationships and develop logical arguments to justify conclusions

MEASUREMENT

  • 3rd Grade - 5th Grade
  • Understand attributes (length, area, weight, volume, and size of angles)
  • Select appropriate unit and tool for measuring each attribute
  • Understand the need for measuring with standard units
  • Measure in standard units in both the customary and metric systems

MEASUREMENT CONT...

  • Carry out simple unit conversions within both systems of measurement (inches to feet, meters to centimeters)
  • Explore perimeter and area of 2D shapes

DATA ANALYSIS AND PROBABILITY

  • 3rd Grade - 5th Grade
  • Design investigations and consider how data collection methods affect the data set
  • Collect data using surveys, observations, and experiments
  • Represent data using tables and graphs
  • Recognize the difference in representing categorical and numerical data
