The inhumane practice of hacking off a shark's fins and tossing it's body back to the sea
At this point the shark will likely starve, be eaten by another fish, or drown

The Issue
Hundreds of millions of sharks are finned annually
Many species being pushed to the brink of extinction
Since the 1970s populations of some species have been decimated by over 95%

Why Shark Finning Occurs
Shark fin soup, of Chinese origin, is considered to be a delicacy
It can cost upwards of $100 a bowl
The soup is being consumed in unsustainable numbers

The Cause
Unsustainable/out of control rates of shark finning
Money coming before our concern to care for and protect the other species around us

Possible Future Effects
Many or all species of sharks can reach extinction
Changing shark populations will destabilize ecosystems in the hydrosphere
