We all....

• need food, shelter, clothing
• need to be loved and respected
• have been abused in some sort of way, yes, all of us !!!

Adverse Childhood Experiences Examples

• Abuse- physical, verbal, sexual by an adult
• Divorce- one, two, three, five
• Death of a family member- old age, disease, suicide, violence
• Violence- shootings, fighting, gangs
• as well as family dysfunction (e.g., an incarcerated, mentally ill, or substance-abusing family member; domestic violence; or absence of a parent because of divorce or separation)

Linked to a wide range of negative health outcomes, for example.....

Sick

• Substance abuse, depression, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and premature mortality (1--3).
• Death at an early age
