Author's Message in 3 Steps
- Identify a topic using one word or a short phrase (love, friendship, family, war, etc).
- Ask: What life lesson does this text teach about _____ (topic or phrase)? What does the author say about __?
- Write a claim that expresses the message universally (this lesson should be applicable beyond the story).
