PETRARCH'S HISTORY

  • Was born on 1304, July 20
  • Traveled often, but lived in Incisa, Carpentras, and Milan
  • Tried multiple careers

PETRARCH'S HISTORY

  • Originally went to law school, however had second thoughts
  • Went to college again for medicine, but dropped out
  • Placed as administrative official of cathedral of Lombex
  • His position in the cathedral allowed him to travel still

ARTIFACT

  • Known as the father of humanism
  • Was a poet and author
  • Created the terms for Eras
  • "Ancient era" "Dark Ages"

ERAS

  • Created the term "Ancient" for previous era
  • Created term "Dark Ages" for when he considered little progress done

AUTHOR/POET

  • Petrarch wrote many books and poems
  • He wrote of human emotions and life, and journals about himself

HUMANISM

  • These things show humanism because he did not restrict himself to religion, or write poems of religion, he wrote of people, and and his life and others
  • Perfected sonnets

BELIEFS

  • Believed the dark ages proved no progression
  • Encouraged for Rome to be capitol of Italy
  • Wanted literacy among people
  • Traveled often, longest stay he had was in Milan for 8 years
