WHO IS JOHN CABOT?

  • John Cabot was born in 1450 and most people believe he died in 1498.
  • He grew up in Venice,Italy and later moved to Bristol, England.
  • Very few things are known about Cabot's life and voyages.
  • He was married to a lady named Mattea and had 3 sons.

WHAT DID JOHN CABOT DO?

  • He sailed to North America from Great Britain.
  • He claimed Canada as a British colony.
  • He was trying to find the Northwest Passage, but instead he found Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • The second time he was trying to find Asia, he disappeared.

WHERE DID MY EXPLORER DO HIS EXPLORATIONS ?

  • He travelled from Britain west across the Atlantic Ocean during his explorations to find the Northwest Passage.
  • He found Newfoundland and Labrador.

WHEN DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • Cabot went exploring in 1496, 1497, and 1498.
  • In 1498 he made an attempt to find Northwest Passage with 5 ships.

  • He went exploring because he wanted to find new riches for his country in the Far East.
  • He was trying to find a shorter trade route to Asia.
  • British merchants gave him money to go on his explorations to find the Northwest Passage because they were excited to improve their trade.

  • John Cabot is important because he discovered a brand new fish source for Great Britain, called Grand Banks by Newfoundland.

  • The Cabot Trail was named after him in Canada.
