Education
No formal requirements are in order to get a job at a bakery, but most prefer those with at least a high school diploma. To be a certified journeyperson, you need to complete an apprenticeship or a college program.

Daily Tasks
Bakers are involved in a wide variety of tasks, including creating recipes, preparing and mixing ingredients, forming dough, decorating items, regulating ovens, ordering supplies, and setting prices.

Job Prospects
Over the last few years, the number of bakers has risen slightly. This number remained fairly stable in food stores, but decreased in the bakery products manufacturing industry and in food services. Since the most of these negative effects appear to be behind us now, the number of bakers should increase slightly over the next few years.

Earnings
What bakers get often depend on a number of factors, like experience, skill level, size and type of bakery, and location. Bakers earn an hourly wage. Average wage is 11-18 dollars an hour, experienced bakers may get as much as 25 dollars an hour. Paid vacations, sick leave, dental, and investment towards retirement are all a bonus.
