CONDITIONS:

  • 1960's schools had terrible records of education for Mexican Americans.
  • They were reduced as "dirty Mexicans" which was one of the main reasons why they walked out and protested it was offensive and wrong. Maybe students would drop out because they couldn't get an degree in education courses.

ACTIONS:

  • Ten thousand students at five schools walked out of school to protest for their equality.
  • Many student as well dropped out and never graduated from high school.

OBSTACLES:

  • Over 50% of Chicano students were pushed out of schools because they have not been taught to read or write, and would fail their courses.
  • Theses schools would have the lowest reading scores in the district, it was a bad reputation for the schools that's why 1/3 of the students were Mexican Americans and they would get kicked out.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • As more students would walk out of schools, more schools would allow prohibited reasons Mexican Americans to not get a better education.
  • They would have Spanish classes, and Mexican teachers.
