Cyber Bullying

  • Cyber Bullying is harassing, threatening, and insulting other people through an online source.
  • 42% of children get cyber bullied & 58% of children are too afraid to tell someone when they are getting bullied.
  • Cyber bullying can lead to murder and suicide.

Sexual Predators

  • A sexual predator is "seen as obtaining or trying to obtain sexual contact with another person in a metaphorically 'predatory' or abusive manner"
  • Target children in chat rooms or social media sites.
  • Predators pretend to have many things in common with the child. (hobbies,problems, emotions)

Dating Violence

  • Partner attempts to take control and have power over the other.
  • Partner keeps track of others every move.
  • Eventually other believes this behavior is normal or 'romantic'.
  • Abuser uses social media sites to keep track of other.

  • Online gaming can be addicting
  • Addicts will lose contact with family & friends
  • Addicts can lose or gain weight excessively
  • Online gaming can involve adults communicating with young children.
  • Age can be hidden with online gaming

  • Children can be their own victims
  • Online posting can never be taken back
  • Social media accounts can ruin reputation
  • Children are posting pictures, thoughts, and videos without realizing the consequences
  • Children get competitive with other posts and post inappropriate things

  • Many schools and jobs reject applicants because of what is on their social media sites
  • Many teenage girls post provocative photos and later regret it
  • Kids are worried about looking cool
  • Teens post pictures with alcohol

Identity Theft

  • Social media accounts can help a thief access your information
  • The information on social media can be used to create fake accounts under your name
  • A computer saves all of your information into files which makes it easy for a thief to access your information by hacking

  • A thief will impersonate a financial institution to receive your personal information
  • It can take months or even years to recover from an identity theft situation
  • It takes a lot of money to clear your name
  • Victim may be rejected from jobs, loans, education, or housing
