During her career, Marilyn Monroe's films grossed more than $200 million
Growing up, Monroe spent much of her time in foster care and in an orphanage. In 1937 a family friend and her husband, Grace and Doc Goddard, took care of Monroe for a few years. The Goddards were paid $25 weekly by Monroe's mother to raise her.
In one of her foster homes, Marilyn experienced being sexually abused by one her guardians.
In her personal life, Monroe had a string of unsuccessful relationships: Her 1954 marriage to baseball great Joe DiMaggio only lasted nine months. Later, she was married to playwright Arthur Miller from 1956 to 1961.
Marilyn Monroe's career as an actress spanned 16 years. She made 29 films, 24 in the first 8 years of her career.
Monroe made DiMaggio promise to leave flowers on her grave every week if she died before him. And her second ex-husband kept his word. For 20 years DiMaggio had a half-dozen red roses delivered three times a week to her crypt. However, he reportedly stopped sending roses after that because fans kept stealing them.
After a tumultuous childhood–both maternal grandparents and her mother were committed to mental institutions, and she lived with a string of foster families–Norma Jeane married one of her neighbors
Marilyn was a successful model. She acquired a screen name, Marilyn Monroe, and dreamed of becoming an actress. she eventually dyed her hair blonde.
Marilyn had faced controversies filming The Prince and the Showgirl for being absent and displaying erratic behavior which created a tense relationship with the crew
Marilyn, at the time, faced professional and personal turmoils.
Marilyn made her famous performance at John F. Kennedy’s birthday celebration wherein she sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.”
in a toxicology report by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, it was revealed that Marilyn’s death was due to acute barbiturate poisoning. Eventually, accidental overdose was ruled out. The coroner classified her death as a probable suicide
