MOBY-DICK

GREATEST WORK BY HERMAN MELVILLE
Moby-Dick is considered one of the greatest work of Melville, but he only sale 5 copies at the first year this book was published. Nathaniel Hawthorne, one of Melville's friend inspired him to wrote this book. This story is about captain Ahab lost his leg in a whaling voyage, a whale called "Moby-Dick" bites one of his leg off. Ahab is desperate for revenge, he exhorts his men to find Moby Dick, but when they finally caught him, the ship is destroyed by Moby Dick, and only a young sailor called Ishmael survived. Quote from Moby Dick "For, thought Starbuck, I am here in this critical ocean to kill whales for my living, and not to be killed by them for theirs; and that hundreds of men had been so killed Starbuck well knew. "

SIGNIFICANT

Melville is one of the greatest American writer. Melville's complex allegorical writings were ground-breaking explorations of eternal questions that expanded the scope of the novel as method of artistic and philosophical inquiry. Also, Melville tried to set up a piece of ethical orders in slavery society, he discussed the problem of slavery and the desire to seek racial equality in his novel "Benito Cereno". His works have great impact on American Literature.

Personal Reaction

I really like the book moby dick, the conflict that Melville bring up in "Moby-Dick", nature vs. human has always been a controversial topic, human taken what they need from the nature, try to conquer it, but nature are so closely related to human that the destruction of the harmony between the two will ultimately lead to human destruction

Why revenge is never a good idea?

Revenge can be endless, if you seek on the person who hurt you, they then take revenge on your revenge, it won't have an end. Revenge can be dangerous and usually end up loss on both side. In the novel "Moby Dick", Captain Ahab seeking for revenge because Moby-dick bits his leg off, but the results led to only one person survived from the ship.
