PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MINING

  • What makes mining so dangerous to miners and the environment?
  • How are miners rescued when they are trapped underground?

CAVE INS.

  • Cave ins can happen when the walls and ceilings of underground mineshafts have not been properly secured. Also if a mine shaft is too deep cracks can happen in the floor and walls of the shaft making it weak.

GAS EXPLOSINS

  • Gas explosions in coal mines can happen from a build up methane gas.
  • Also if they don't have ventilation pockets of gas will form. This was the cause of the Polley Mountain Caribou gas explosion.
  • Gas must be monitored at all times if they don't then faults can cause sparks and trigger explosions.

VEHICLE OR EQUIPMENT COLLISIONS OR CRUSHING.

  • Mining equipment is really large, heavy and can move at fast speeds. Mining equipment can put miners in great danger of being crushed, pinned or run over by mine trucks.

CHEMICAL LEAKAGE

  • Chemicals are often used because they transform ores from there normal state into usable states. Accidents happen when chemicals are not stored correctly.

ELECTROCUTION

  • The use of heavy electrical equipment such as drills is frequently used. If the mining environment is wet it can be really dangerous. explosions also can trigger worn cabals or plugs
  • And electrocute miners.

FIRES

  • Fires can occur in mines for a allot of reasons the most frequent being electrical faults or the spillage of chemicals
