  • 435 seats total
  • Number of members differs by state
  • Determined by population
  • 2-year terms

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Every state has at least 1 representative
  • Total for each state is determined by population
  • No term limits
  • Choose the Speaker of House
  • Sole "Power of Impeachment"
Since the number of representatives for a state is determined by its population, a census is required every ten years to reapportion the seats in the House.

THE SENATE

  • 100 seats total
  • 2 senators from each state
  • Not influenced by state population
  • 6-year terms
  • Article I, Section 3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • 1/3 are chosen every 2 years
  • Vice President is the President of the Senate
  • No term limits
  • Sole power to try all impeachments
Although the Vice President is President of the Senate, he does not have the power to vote unless to break a tie.

If the Senate decides to try a case of impeachment, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over the impeachment trial.

The Senate only has the ability to remove an individual from office.
