PRESENTATION OUTLINE

COOKING WITH THE SUN!

THIS YEAR WE WANTED TO COOK FOOD USING THE SUN!

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

  • We know:
  • The sun provides energy to all living things.
  • The sun gives off heat.
  • The sun can be used to cook food.
  • The sun makes food for plants and is a renewable energy source.

QUESTIONS

  • We wanted to know if we could cook food in a shoebox?
  • We wanted to know how long it would take?
  • We wanted to know what types of food we could cook in the solar oven?

PREDICTIONS

WE PREDICT IT WOULD THAT 30 MINUTES TO COOK OUR S'MORE!

MATERIALS

  • Shoeboxes
  • Aluminum foil
  • Black paper/plastic bags
  • Tape
  • Glue

CLAIMS AND EVIDENCE

  • We claimed that it would take the ovens 10 to 30 minutes to cook smores.
  • We based this on an earlier experiment we did on Friday. The weather was partly cloudy.(cooler)
  • Monday the weather was sunny with little wind and few clouds.
  • We also based this on how much heat loss and heat gain we would have during the process.
  • We felt that Monday would give better results because the weather was better.(warmer)

CONCLUSION

  • The s'mores cooked faster on Monday than Friday!
  • The clouds and wind made it hard to conduct the experiment on Friday!

FINAL REFLECTIONS

  • We would have materials that we can clean easily!
  • We would find better places where there is not much shade!
  • We could find a place with little wind.
  • We would focus on making ovens that have little heat loss.
