• Bones become more porous and fragile
• Loss of bone occurs silently and progressively

Changes to hormone function

Oestrogen deficiency, normally as a result of menopause, is the most common cause of osteoporosis. This could cause high levels of parathyroid hormone, overactive thyroid, and excess production of cortisol.

• Predicted to affect as many as half of all Americans over age 50 by the year 2020.
