Background:Early Life

  • Born April 28 1908 and died October 9 1974(age 66)
  • Grew up in Zwittau, Moravia
  • Joined the Abwehr in 1936 
  • Collected information on railways and troop movements
  • Joined the Nazi party in 1939(Steinhouse,2004)

Saved more than 1,200 Jewish people during the holocaust(Steinhouse,2004)

Background:Motivation

  • Was an oppurtunist
  • Disagreed with the Germans(Steinhouse, 2014)

Event:liquidation of the krakow ghetto

  • March 1943
  • Kept his workers at the factory
  • Added another 450 Jews to Emalia(Tabacznik, 2013)

Event:abandoned cattle cars

  • 1945
  • 132 Jewish prisoners who had not eaten or drank in 10 days
  • Oskar and Emilie were able to save 116 of the 132 prisoners
  • Schindler purchased a nearby plot of land for burial(Crowe, 2004)

Impact

  • Schindler's false factory production numbers caused suspicion
  • Today there are 7,000 descendants of Schindler's Jews(Crowe,2013)

  • Schindler's list was created by one of his assistants
  • Composed of the names of the 1,200 prisoners he saved
  • Schindler's story would later be made into a movie(Crowe,2013)
