OSKAR SCHINDLER

The man that saved thousands

OSKAR SCHINDLER

  • Was born April 28th, 1908
  • He grew up in Zwittau, Moravia
  • He worked several trades in Germany

-In 1936 he joined the Inteligence service of Nazi Germany.
-Then in 1939 he joined the Nazi party.
-Oskar collected information on railways and troop movements for the German government.

-In 1939 Schindler obtained a enamelware factory in Kraków, that employed 1,750 workers.
-Of these employees thousands were Jews.
-His connections with the German intelligence helped Schindler protect his Jewish workers from deportation to death camps.

-At first Schindler did this for the profit he would make from the business, but he later kept doing this without cost.
-He even had to bribe people to keep his workers safe.

When Germany began losing the war, many concentration camps were evacuated, but many people were killed in Auschwitz death camp.

Schindler convinced the commander of the nearby Kraków-Plaszów concentration camp to move his factory to Sudetenland , saving workers from gas chambers

Using names provided by Ghettos , Mietek Pemper made a list 1,200 Jews who traveled to Brünnlitz in October. Schindler kept bribing the SS to prevent the slaughter of his workers until the end of WW2.

What makes Schindler's story so fascinating is that he wasn't the average hero. He's not like Ghandi or Mother Theresa. He would drink, womanizer and wear the nazi- badges. He knew what was happening around him was wrong so he decided to do something about it.
