LOCATION AND CLIMATE

  • Originaly located in Missouri Oklahoma and Arkansas, but now mainly in Oklahoma
  • Hot humid summers
  • Long cold winters

FOOD ACCOSIATED WITH TRIBE

  • Big hunters, hunted buffalo
  • Raised crops such as:
  • Corn, beans, squash, pumpkins
  • ( oh-seyJ )

OSAGE HOMES

  • Lived in settled villages
  • Of round earthen lodges
  • Made from wooden frames, and packed earth
  • And tipis for campingj tents made of buffalo hide
  • ( oh-seyJ )

WEAPONS AND TOOLS OF OSAGE

  • Bows and arrows
  • Especially well made longbows
  • Also war clubs, and spears
  • ( oh-seyJ )

RELIGION/RELIGIOUSE CEREMONIES

  • Their religion was Pantheistic
  • The Osage had both crisis and calendrical rituals
  • One ceremony was in the late summer and was a green corn ceremony
  • There is even some mention of human sacrifice

FAMILY LIFE FOR ALL MEMBERS

  • Children mostly went out hunting and fishing with their fathers
  • Men were hungers, amd went to war to protect their families
  • Osage women cared for the children, coo ked food, and farmed
  • Only men became osage cheifs
  • Both genders took part in storytelling, artwork, music, and traditional medicine

TYPE OF GOVERNMENT

  • Had own government, laws, police, and services
  • Led by a cheif, who was chosen by the tribal council
