PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Organelles

Objectives

  • Define the roles of vesicles and vacuoles
  • Distinguish types of vesicles
  • Describe the function of centrioles
  • Describe how a cell can move
  • (this is basal cell carcinoma)

Vesicles

  • Transport vesicles
  • Lysosomes
  • Peroxisomes (self-replicate!)

Vacuoles

  • Excrete
  • Secrete
  • Store

Centrioles

  • Rod-like structures
  • Short microtubules
  •  1 centriole = 9 groups of 3 microtubules
  • Two perpendicular centrioles =centrosome

Those microtubules are also used by cells to move.

Movement

  • Cilia
  • Flagella

Pseudopodia are extensions of the cytoplasm formed by microfilaments.
