PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CELL MEMBRANE

  • Barrier that separates a cell from the external environment
  • Membrane that monitors and selectively controls entry into and out of the cell
  • Note: a security guard is like a cell membrane because it keeps curtain things in and out

CYTOPLASM

  • Fluid that fills the cell and contains dissolved molecules
  • Note:cytoplasm is like a landfill because it has a bunch of dissolved things

NUCLEUS

  • Contains the cell's DNA and function like the cell's "brain"
  • Note: the cell is like a mayors office because it is in charge of everything in the cell

CYTOSKELETON

  • Network of proteins that constantly change to meet the needs of the cell
  • Note: the cytoskeleton is like the city council becauseit makes important decisions

SMOOTH ER

  • Interconnected network of thin, folded membranes
  • Its surface has no ribosomes
  • Note: the smooth ER is like the metro because it transports thimgs

ROUGH ER

  • Interconnected networks of thin, folded membranes
  • Its surface is covered in ribosomes
  • Note: the rough ER is like the metro because it transports things

RIBOSOME

  • Tiny organelle that link amino acids together to form proteins
  • Note: ribosomes are like recycling plants because they reuse things so they are usable

GOLGI APPARATUS

  • Closely layered stacks of membranes that process, sort, and deliver proteins
  • Note: the golgi apparatus is like a postoffice because it processes and sends things

VESICLE

  • Small membrane-bound sack that sorts and transports materials
  • Note: vesicles are like delivery trucks because they transport items

MITOCHONDRIA

  • Supplies energy for the cell
  • Note: mitochondria are like power plants because they make enrgy

VACUOLE

  • Fluid-filled sack used for storage of materials needed by a cell
  • Note: vacuoles are like storage facilities because they store stuff

LYSOSOME

  • Acts as a digestive system for a cell
  • Lysosomes are like factories because they use things and produce new ones

CELL WALL

  • Structure that provides rigid support
  • Note: cell walls are like i-beams on buildings in cities

CHLOROPLAST

  • Helps a plant cell convert solar energy to chemical energy
  • Note: chloroplasts are like solar fields because they convert light into energy
