OPERATION RED DAWN

GOAL

• The goal of the op was to capture Iraq leader Saddam Hussein
• Intel put him in the town of ad-Dawr
• Task Force 121 and an infantry division conducted the op

BACKGROUND

• Saddam seized control of Iraq in 1979
• He began with the invasion of Iran in 1980
• After the Iraq-Iran war Saddam seized Kuwait in a power grab in 1990
• The United States launched Desert Storm to counter Saddam Hussein

CRIMES

• In 2003 Saddam was declared a terrorist with ties to Al-Queda

JUST WAR THEORY

• Saddam Hussein was executed for numerous crimes in 2006
• He was convicted of crimes against humanity
• Just war theory proves the necessity of his execution

WHY

• He was causing lasting infliction with the suppression of his people and the invasion of Iran and Kuwait
• Many peace treaties were brokered but he defied them
• He was accused of attempting to obtain nuclear weapons for undesirable proposes

MY STATEMENT

• I agree with the decision of the US to capture Hussein
• He caused 3 separate wars throughout his reign
• Saddam had taken away liberties from his people and used chemical weapons on his own ground
• He was planning to obtain nuclear weapons
