• call names, insult, yell, accuse
• sarcastic, critical, mean, rude
• deceive, gossip, lie
• threaten, terrify, ridicule, blame
• laugh @ others, humiliate, put down

SEASONED WITH SALT

• Rarity of salt in ancient time
• Taste test
• Fakes or Imitations
• Matthew 5:13
• Fake/impure salt was useless

TASTE TEST

• Do our words pass the "taste test?"
• Godly, true, and kind words?
• Real, authentic, and genuine?
• Follower of Jesus?

EFFECT OF SALT

• More inviting and delicious
• More satisfying & we want more
• Ruin food if added to much
• We sprinkle, not dump salt

SALTING OUR WORDS

• Speak gently, kindly, & persuade
• 2 Timothy 2:23-25
• Speak less and listen more James (1:19-20)
• Others rather than ourselves (Prov. 27:2)
• Speak of Jesus & Gospel (Acts 13:42)

AS YOU OUGHT

• "Ought" - obligation, duty, necesity
• "Must" speak to others as God requires
• Respectfully, not rudelty
• Kindly, not angrily
• Truthfully, not deceptively

AS YOU OUGHT

• Misuse of God's name
• Proper use of Biblical words
• Dirty jokes, curse words, etc.
• Supporting shows, movies, songs, etc.
• Hurt our influence and weaken our conscience

AS YOU OUGHT

• Ephesians 5:3-4
• Filthiness, foolish talking, coarse joking
• "Answer each one" - Colossians 4:6

• Ready to give a defense

• Not always easy, comfortable, but right!
