THINGS I LEARNED

Potters could fit about 8,000 pottery pieces in their kiln, and they would fire them about once a year.

There were also books that taught you how to raise children, choose good fish, and other necessities. They also contained recipes, or receipts as they were called.

Colonists would use powdered sugar in receipts because they had to shave of sugar from a huge and hard sugar block.

The colonists would also use rose water instead of vanilla when making food. Vanilla did not grow in the area and it was expensive, so they found an alternative.

Tin cans cost about 5 cents, and pottery cups cost about 3 cents
