OSHA is an agency of the United StatesDepartment of Labor. It was established by Congress under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which became a law in 1970.

  • To ensure safety and healthy work conditions for men and women in the work place

WHAT ARE OSHA SAFETY STANDARDS?

  • OSHA standards are requirements for employees that make safety and health policies for their workers necessary. The standard also encourages workers to be active in the formation of these policies.

WHY WAS OSHA CREATED?

  • OSHA was created because of public outcry against rising injuries and deaths right on the job.

DOES OSHA APPLY TO EVERYONE

  • Not everyone has to follow OSHA regulations and many small businesses are exempt from the requirements.
  • Other small businesses with more than 10 employees may also be exempt from the programmed inspections.

CAN YOU BE FIRED FOR REPORTING TO OSHA?
