Most of today’s energy sources are from fossil fuel ,gas ,coal, and oil. These non renewable subscene took millions of years to make. About 2 million years ago marine algae died and settled on the ocean floor. After some year they became kerogen. Under heat and pressure the kerogen becomes oil and gas. This process takes about a million years.
Through the earth's movement. Oil and gas squeeze through the layers of the earth on to land. The oil on the land seeps out naturally. Most of the time the oil stay under they land forming reservoirs. These reservoir are huge, as huge as a city. To find oil geologists use a number of different methods. Then when the oil is collected it is stored in bins, long story short.
Oil has high density-little oil has a lot of energy. Oil is very cheap because oil has been around for centuries and is very common. A big supply of oil is left about 171,000,000,000 barrels of oil. Oil is very crucial for some industries. Easy to produce and refile. Unlike solar and wind energy oil is 24/7 energy making; very reliable. Fossil fuel plants are easy to set up so, anywhere they are found, they set up a plant there.
When people transport oil, it may spill, killing millions of marine animals, plants, and animals. It may even harm humans, when lots of oil is in drinking water. When you drink that water, you may get poisoned, as millions of gallons of oil goes into the ocean every year. Now 30 to 40% of water is oil. We have to stop this! Even if it is at the bottom of the lakes and oceans, who cares! It is still harming plants and animals! Even other oils like cooking oils are dangerous.
If hot water splashes on you, you will be a bit hurt. But if hot cooking oil splashes on you, your skin will be burnt so bad, nothing can touch it, even your bed. Even when that skin stretches a little bit, it will sting like crazy. You may have a patch of skin that is another offset colour for the rest for your life. When oil is used in cars and planes, it damages the environment and causes global warming.
- Oil is burned to heat water to create steam to generate electricity. Combustion turbine
- Oil is burned under pressure to hot exhaust gases which spin a turbine to generate electricity
Oil and fuel are two different things and there different when turning it in to energy as well
When fossil fuels are burned carbon and hydrogen react with oxygen in air to carbon dioxide and water. During this reaction heat is released which further amplifies the reaction.
Electricity is
generated by transforming mechanical energy (heat) to electrical energy in a turbine or generator.
