GEOGRAPHY

  • The Ohio River is 981 miles long.
  • Starts when the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers combine.
  • Ends in Cairo, Illinois by entering the Mississippi River.
  • There are small islands scattered in the Ohio River.

The Ohio River forms part of a natural boundary with Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky

SETTLING AND EXPLORATION

WHY WOULD SOMEONE COME HERE?

EXPLORATION

  • The first European to find the Ohio River, La Salle, reached it in 1669
  • France and Great Britain struggled over control of the area.

SETTLEMENT

  • Settlement of the Ohio River area began after the American Revolution at a fast speed.
  • Some of the first cities founded along the Ohio river were Cincinnati and Marietta, both founded in 1788.
  • Along the border of Ohio and Kentucky, there is a street called the Ohio River Scenic Byway, and there is a train line next to it.

  • There is a source of water
  • Flat farmland
  • Animals
  • Good climate

Sadly, the Ohio River is quite polluted, so you now need to filter it a lot before drinking.
