HOW IT ALL STARTED

  • N.W.A was created by Eazy-E and Dr. Dre
  • Dr. Dre later added DJ Yella to the group and Ice Cube
  • In 1988 MC Ren joined N.W.A
  • N.W.A was active in 1986
  • Ruthless records released N.W.A and the posse on November 6.1987

EAZY-E

  • Known as the "The Godfather Of Gangsta Rap"
  • Born in Compton, California
  • Had to sell drugs after dropping out of school in 10th grade
  • Invested in Ruthless Records with Jerry Heller
  • Betrayed N.W.A after financially taking care of himself

Dr. Dre

  • Founder and CEO of Aftermath Etertainment and Beats Electronics
  • Was co-owner and artist of Death Row Records
  • Began career as apart of the World Class Wrecking' Cru
  • Known as a record producer, rapper, and entrepreneur
  • Left N.W.A after dispute with Eazy-E and had him release his contract

DJ-YELLA

  • Is an American DJ, music producer, and film and director
  • Was a member of the World Class Wreckin' Cru
  • Produced all 3 N.W.A albums
  • 1996 went solo and debuted his album
  • November 26, 2011 he returned to the music industry

ICE CUBE

  • Began his music career as a member of the music group C.I.A
  • Left N.W.A in December 1989
  • Known as a rapper, actor, record producer, film producer,and screen writer
  • Considered one of the top 10 greatest MC 's
  • Attacked by the members of N.W.A after leaving because of contract negotiations

MC REN

  • American rapper who joined N.W.A
  • Vocal artist but started to co-write songs after Ice Cube departure of the group
  • Released a total of 4 albums
  • Stuck with Ruthless records and put out a record called "Kizz My Black Azz"
  • Became known through his brother DJ Train and ability to Rhyme

FUCK THA POLICE

  • Protest song by N.W.A which debuted on "Straight Outta Compton"
  • Record was recorded and released in 1988
  • "Fuck tha police"was declared under Ruthless Records
  • Writers were: Ice Cube, MC Ren, Eazy-E
  • Producers were: DR. Dre and DJ-Yella

FUCK THA POLICE

  • "Fuck tha police" was divided into sections where 3 of the members testify before a judge
  • Dr. Dre criticizes the LAPD and shows how they focus crime labels on black minorities
  • Brings out the tension the black urban youth has against the police
  • Song became even more popular in the 1992 incident of Rodney King
  • Suggested that the Police felt as if blacks were dangerous and were trouble

FUCK THA POLICE

  • Broke news as the most controversial song created
  • The lyrics N.W.A used was very explicit and would not be played much by anyone
  • Radio played must of N.W.A songs
  • The Los Angeles community started to realize the cruelty of the police and started massive riots
  • Song was played non-stop in Belgrade

FUCK THA POLICE

  • Gave rap a different outlook towards music
  • Many felt as if rap influenced people to do negative things and led to more crime thanks to N.W.A
  • Received a letter from the FBI saying their music was not approved and falsely accused them of racism
  • During performances a couple of the members would be arrested for explicit language
  • Song is still having a strong impact on today's world and has a big impact on hip hop music

FUCK THA POLICE

  • Created a bigger protest beyond the music which made society riot in a lot of cities
  • Became on the "Rolling stones list of 500 greatest songs of all time" #417
  • Today's artist make references to "fuck tha police" in thier song ex) Kanye, the game
  • Negatives: some say the song led to the deaths of innocent people
  • "Remains as the single most powerful political statement in hip hop history"
