What Are They? Nutrias are beaver/river rat like mammals with orange teeth. They are originated in a subtropical and temperate place in South America. Ever since their invasion, they have been introduced to North America, Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Their Invasion The Nutrias invasion began in 1940. The people of South America were selling the Nutrias fur in North America. Sadly their market collapsed and thousands of the Nutrias were released to the world. They are now in a state where they are dangerous to the environment.
The Impact The Nutrias are destroying the land by digging up the marshes and messing up the wetlands. Lots of people are now setting traps to capture the Nutrias to get them out of the water and to stop them from destroying the wetlands.
