IS NUCLEAR WARFARE USED AS A LAST OPTION ?

  • No First Use (NFU) is a pledge by a country containing nuclear weapons not to use it as a first option
  • Many countries around the world refuse to adopt (NFU)
  • China was the first to introduce (NFU)
  • Some of the countries who refuse to adopt (NFU) agree only to use them defensively
  • Many countries have not admitted to having nuclear weapons....

WHAT COUNTRIES ARE PREPARED FOR NUCLEAR WARFARE?

  • The countries that have admitted to having nuclear weapons prepared are:
  • -USA -United Kingdom -France -Russia -China
  • The countries who have admitted to having nuclear weapons but are not prepared to use them are
  • -India -Pakistan -North Korea
  • Israel is believed to have nuclear weapons but has not confessed

WHAT WAS THE FIRST RECORDING OF NUCLEAR WARFARE?

  • The first recording was in World War II
  • On August 6, 1945 the first nuclear bomb was dropped in the Japanese city of Hiroshima
  • On August 9, 1945 a second bomb was dropped in Nagasaki, Japan
  • Both bombs were made and dropped by the USA to end World War II
  • The bombs were both used as last resorts or options for the USA

WHAT PART OF THE BOMB DOES MOST OF THE DAMAGE? RADIATION OR EXPLOSION?

  • Explosions from the bomb can last up to 45 min
  • Explosion can do 40-50% of the damage
  • Radiation can last a matter of seconds or thousands of years
  • Radiation can cause 30-40% of the damage done
  • Everything depends on the ingredients of the bomb made
