North America used to be covered by large glaciers.

These glaciers receded around the time that the first Native Americans came to North America from Asia.

One theory to how these people arrived on the continent is the land bridge theory.

This theory says that the first people to arrive in North America were hunters.

These people followed the herds of animals that they hunted for food. The herds led them across the stretch of ocean between Russia and Alaska that was frozen over at that time.

The people made their way to the southern part of the continent until the glaciers started melting, making the land to the north more liveable.

The second major theory to how the Native Americans settled in North America is the coastal theory.

This theory says that the first Native Americans were fishermen that sailed across the Pacific Ocean and eventually settled in North America around California.
