NOMADIC EMPIRES

Nomadic Society

Nomad is someone who moves from place to place and doesn't live in one spot.

A society like this were most likely hunters and gathers. These people travelled from place to place deepening on the vegitation and well being of the area. If it was a good area with good growth, they stayed; if not, move on to the next destination.

The Seljuqs were allied with the Persian Samanid Shahs against the Qarakhanids. The Samanids fell to the Qarakhanids in Transoxania (992/999), however, whereafter the Ghaznavids arose. The Seljuqs became involved in this power struggle in the region before establishing their own independent base.

GENGHIS KHAN

  • Came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of northeast Asia.
  • After founding the Mongol Empire and being proclaimed "Genghis Khan,"

the Pax Mongolica was a time of relative peace throughout the Old World that led to an increase of trade, as well as an increase in awareness, between distant nations. In essence, the Mongol Empire administered political order over a very large area of land which enabled relative political and economic stability to follow.

Sought to govern rather than to exploit and devastate the vast domains bequeathed to him by two generations of Mongol conquests. He made the transition from a nomadic conqueror from the steppes to effective ruler of a sedentary society.
