BIRTH

MAY 3, 1469 IN FLORENCE, ITALY
Machiavelli was born in the heart of the Renaissance. Florence, Italy in the 1400's. This benefited him greatly because he had a platform to share his thoughts.

ACHIEVMENTS

  • Became a diplomat after the fall of the Medici family
  • Pubished his book "The Prince"
  • He is regarded as the "Father of Modern Theory"
  • Was a well known philosopher
In between diplomacy and publishing "The Prince" Machiavelli spent time in jail. His book is still read by world leaders today. It told of how to gain and control power. By far this was one of his greatest contributions.

BELIEFS AND IDEAS

  • Machiavelli was a humanist
  • He believed that it was better to be feared than
  • loved by your people
  • He wrote that you must do whatever it takes
  • to obtain and hold power
Machiavelli had an urge for power and control. He believed it was all that mattered. "The Prince" is his guide on how to get power. Popularity among the people was not as important as being respected by them.

Even Machiavelli's famous quotes involved the pursuit of power. It may be hard and you may show your true self but the end result is all the same.
