An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

a roller COASTER has INERTIA.

  • it wants to keep moving at a constant rate.
  • however the tracks act as a force in order to make it slow down or stop.
  • the tracks also change the direction of the roller coaster.

a women picking up a cat acts as newtons first law because the cat would have stayed at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. here the unbalanced force would be considered the women

Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object).

the impact force of the baseball on your mitt depends on the mass of the baseball and it's acceleration rate

Newton's second, F=ma, applies to soccer mostly in the way the ball is propelled. When you kick a soccer ball, you are applying a net force, F, to theball which has a mass, m. This net force causes the ball to accelerate.

the picture of a balloon is a demonstration of newtons third law because the air releasing is the reason the balloon will rise up.

the picture of the skate board demonstrates newtons third law because the kid pushing the skate board cause it to move.
