PRESENTATION OUTLINE
What is Newton's Third Law?
The Law:
For every action, there is an equal or opposite reaction
But this is not the kind of reaction Newton is describing.
Newton uses "reaction" in the scientific way.
So here is a better example.
The bird's wings push air down which causes the bird to rise.
How this demonstrates the third law
- Burning fuel creates a push on the front of the rocket pushing it upwards.
- Since there will be an equal and opposite reaction, the exhaust gas pushes backwards.
- The rocket goes up.
