HOW NEWSPAPERS STARTED OUT

  • Newspapers were written on metal or stone
  • Then posted in places like the Roman Forum
  • Appeared around 131 BC
  • They were also known as Acta Diurna or "daily acts"

HOW WERE THEY USED?

  • Contribute to public discourse through official texts detailing things going on
  • Details such as Roman military victories,
  • games and gladiatorial bouts,
  • and birth and death notices

MORE ON HOW THEY WERE USED

  • Details of the Roman Senate were found in an Acta Senatus
  • Julius Caesar ordered them to be published as part of many populist reforms
  • He instituted this during his first consulship

HOW DID IT HELP?

  • It helped by letting everybody know the happenings in Rome
  • Shows upcoming events especially live gladiator events and shows 
  • Also any improvements or decreasing in the Roman government
