Founding of New Hampshire

  • The land in the New World was granted to Captain John Mason. He sent settlers to the new territory to create a fishing colony. However, he died before ever seeing where he had spent a big amount of money building towns and defenses.
  • The New Hampshire Colony was founded in 1638 by Captain John Mason and John Wheelwright and other colonists.

  • He was a sailor
  • Was the captain of a ship but nobody know which
  • He was also the governor of New Hamshire
  • He lived in Hampshire County, England

Geography

  • The geography of colonial New Hampshire was a variety of hills, mountains, low cost and plateaus.
  • The mountains were thick with trees, and the soil in other areas was so rocky and poor that it made the area difficult to farm.

Economy

Religion

  • the religion was very strict
  • wanted proper behavior from citizens
  • They wanted fair church

Crops

  • Some crops like corn, beans, pumpkins, and rye were raised here
  • Farming was difficult for crops like wheat because of the poor soil
  • Trade in the Colonial New Hampshire encompassed fish, timber, furs, ships and livestock.
