  • Lake Mead was named after Elwood Mead, who was the commissioner of the US Bureau of Reclamation during 1924 to 1936.The Boulder Canyon Project while he was there created the dam and lake. That proves it wasn't created naturally. It receives its water from snow melt in the Colorado,Wyoming, and the Utah Rocky Mountains. At the bottom of the lake, there is(or was)wreckage from a plane crash in 1948 and 2 other crashed planes.
