PRESENTATION OUTLINE

NET NEUTRALITY

BY NICK LECLAIR

WHAT IS NET NEUTRALITY

  • Net neutrality is the law that used to be in place stating all internet access should be the same across providers
  • Without this protection device providers can throttle certain websites or apps unless they are paid extra money
  • They can also be subject to political corruption especially

EXAMPLE OF POTENTIAL EVIL

  • Say aLl rules around net neutrality disappear isps have the potential to take payment from major corporations and political figures to make their internet go faster for consumers or to throttle other companies they are rivaled with or political figured they are rivaled with
  • Donald trump could pay Comcast to slow down Hillary Clinton’s website

PROS

  • Internet speeds stay universal
  • Smaller companies can survive
  • Maintains a competitive market
  • Lower potential for corruption

CONS

  • More expensive for the same speed
  • Too much power in the hands of service providers
  • Potential to slow certain companies or websites down
  • Limiting what should be considered a “utility”
  • Squash smaller companies

POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS

  • Making internet service a utility and the restrictions pin providers that come with that
  • Legislation preventing service providers Tyron restricting or throttling things they are not supposed to
  • Completely removing all restriction and hoping the free market will be competitive enough to keep service providers in line

MY SOLUTION

  • Make internet service classified as a utility and prevent service providers from restricting throttling or taking payment for better internet services
  • This solution seems the most stable and sure fire way of fixing the net neutrality issue right now and for future generations it would also contribute to the growth of the internet considerably
