PRESENTATION OUTLINE

NERO

BY ADAM C.,CINDY S.

A RULER IS BORN

  • Nero was Roman Emperor from 54 to 68, and the last in the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Nero was adopted by his grand-uncle Claudius to become his heir and successor, and succeeded to the throne in 54 following Claudius' death
  • Nero gained a reputation for political generosity, promoting power-sharing with the Senate and ending closed-door political trials, though he generally pursued his own passions and left the ruling up to three key advisers

EVIL PREVAILS

  • Nero had tortured and killed many Christians
  • His family was also filled with incest
  • He poisoned his own mother

REMOVAL

  • Nymphidius Sabinus, persuaded his troops to abandon their allegiance to Nero. Alas, the senate condemned the emperor to be flogged to death. As Nero heard of this he chose rather to commit suicide, which he did with the assistance of a secretary (9 June AD 68).

REPUTATION?

  • Nero is painted as an emperor who didn't care about his people, but it's likely that he didn't deserve such a bad reputation
