NEPTUNE

BY: ISABELLA PERSKY

Composition: Neptune is made of very cold gases of hydrogen, helium, and methane.

Atmosphere: Neptune mostly consists of hydrogen and helium, with trace amounts of methane, water, ammonia, and other ices. Unlike other planets, Neptune has larger proportions of ice.

Moons: Neptune has 13 moons. Their names are Triton, Nereid, Naiad, Thalassa, Despina, Galatea, Larissa, Proteus, Halimede, Psamathe, Sao, Laomedeia, and Neso

Rotation: One day in Neptune is 16 hours, 6 minutes, and 36 seconds. Neptune isn't a single solid object so different parts rotate at different speeds.

Revolution: One year in Neptune is 165 Earth years or 60,190 Earth days.

Distance from the sun: Neptune is 2,798,000,000 miles (4,503,000,000 kilometers) from the sun.

Diameter: The diameter of Neptune is 30,599 miles (49,244 kilometers).

Temperature Extremes: Temperatures on Neptune can dip down to 55 Kelvin (-218 Celsius). The average temperature is 73 Kelvin (-200 Celsius).

Appearance: Neptune is a blueish greenish color. Near the southern part of Neptune there is a dark blue spot. It is a bundle of clouds. It is similar to Jupiter's Great Red Spot. It can fit about 1 Earth inside it.

FUN FACTS!
