How Neptune got its name?

  • Astronomers were deciding which names would the planets have after deities, so they named the new planet Neptune after the Roman god because of its intense blue color.

HOW IS NEPTUNE FORMED?

  • The formation of Neptune has been a long mystery.
  • It is the fourth-largest planet by diameter and the third-largest by mass.
  • Among the gaseous planets in the solar system, Neptune is the most dense.

WHAT IS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SUN AND NEPTUNE

  • The distance between Neptune and the Sun is approximately 4,5 billion km, it is exactly 4.498, 252,900km.

HOW MUCH BIGGER IS NEPTUNE THWN THE EARTH

  • Neptune is 39 times bigger than the Earth.
  • Neptune's mass is 17 times more than Earth and you could fit Earth 57 times inside.
  • A day on Earth is 24 hours while a day on Neptune is 16 hours and 6 minutes .
  • A year on Earth is 365 days but in Neptune it is 16479 Earth years .
  • It would be pretty difficult to realise if you are standing on Neptune's or the Earth's surface because Neptune's gravity is only 14% stronger than the Earth's.

WHY IS NEPTUNE A PLANET AND NOT A SATELLITE?

  • A planet orbits around a star (Mercury around the sun) while a satellite orbits around a body, mainly planets and very large asteroids.
  • Neptune orbits the sun at an avarage distance of 30 astronomical units

WHAT TYPE OF PLANET IS IT, ROCKY OR GASEOUS? WHAT MAKES IT ROCKY OR GASEOUS?

  • Neptune is a gaseous planet because it hasn't any solid metals or rocks. Since gaseous planets don't have anything solid to step on, we couldn't live on it although it's on a distance of the sun where it would be impossible to live on it. Scientist think gaseous planet have a rocky center, they are not sure and they think they would maybe be liquid metal or rock.

WHAT TYPE OF PLANET IS IT WHAT MAKES IT ROCKY OR GASEOUS?

  • Neptune is a gaseous planet,it hasn't any solid metals or rocks.
  • Since gaseous planets don't have anything solid to step on, we couldn't live on it. It's also on a distance from the sun where it would be impossible to live on it anyway.
  • Scientists think gaseous planets have a rocky center, they are not sure and they think they would maybe be liquid metal or rock.

WHO DISCOVERD NEPTUNE, HOW

  • Alexis Bouvard, a mathematician, discovered Neptune.
  • Gottfried Galle used calculations to find Neptune.
  • Two astromers, Le Verrier and Adams, helped to discover Neptune and they gave them credit in 1847.
