WHO WAS NELSON MANDELA?

  • Occupation: President of South Africa and Activist
  • His birth name is Rolihlahla.
  • He was the president of South Africa.

WHAT?

  • Nelson became the first black president of South Africa.
  • He started a youth league.
  • He led the 1952 Defiance campaign.
  • Dedicate his life to human rights.
  • Became famous for his long battle against racial prejudice.

WHEN?

  • He was born in 1918.
  • Nelson was in prison from 1962-1990, 27 years.
  • Became president of South Africa in 1994.
  • Retired in 1999.
  • Nelson passed way on December the 5th 2013.

WHERE?

  • He was born in Mveso, Transkei, South Africa.
  • He died in Johannesburg, South Africa.
  • He now rests in the Mandela graveyard, Qunv, Eastern cape.

WHY DID HE GO TO JAIL?

  • For encouraging black south africans to go on strike.

  • And planned to overthrow the government by non-violent protests.
