KID YEARS

  • He was born on August 5, 1930.
  • He lived with his parents in Wapakoneta, Ohio.
  • At the age of 16 he got a pilot’s license.
  • When he got into college he decided to go to Purdue University.

JOINING NASA

  • When he got out of college he went to NACA.
  • Later they changed it to NASA.
  • His job was a test pilot & engineer.

FAMILY

  • When he got older he then married Janet Shearon.
  • Neil and Janet moved from Wapakoneta, Ohio to Houston, Texas.
  • He had three kids Eric, Karen, and Mark Armstrong.

MISSIONS

  • On March 16, 1966 he went in the Gemini VII.
  • He went in the Gemini VII to orbit the earth.
  • On July 16, 1969 he went on his big mission to the moon.
  • He traveled safely to the moon.
  • He was the first person to step on the moon, when stepped on the moon he said this famous quote, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

LATER YEARS

  • He stayed at NASA till 1971.
  • But sadly he died on August 25, 2012.
