LIFE

  • The navajo are very family oriented
  • They base there life on everyday occurrences
  • Many games and traditions evolved from their way of life
  • Long winter nights and boredom led to most of their ideas
  • The navajo life is rich with ceremonies and rituals

CEREMONIES AND RITUALS

  • Most navajo groups celebrated a lot
  • They performed ceremonies for treatment
  • Treatment of mental and physical sicknesses
  • Ceremonies took up to a month!
  • Even the less important ones took five or six days

ARTS

  • Many dry-paintings were made
  • As well as necklaces and other jewelry
  • Rugs and carpets were made
  • Face painting was very common
  • They created many statues also

LOCATION

  • The navajo call themselves the dine or the people
  • They are located in North America
  • They migrate often and there tales are original
  • Their location is around New Mexico

RELIGION

  • A group of antomorphic deities are most important
  • They believe in gods mostly spider woman or the changing woman
  • The sun god is the most powerful of the gods along side are her two sons the monster slayers
  • Other powers include animal bird and reptile
  • The strongest powers are natural phenomenon like wind light and dark

LIFE AND DEATH

  • Traditionally the navajo didn't believe in life after death
  • They started out morbidly afraid of death like it was a monster
  • Somewhere along the line someone created the afterlife
  • The navajo began to believe in it
  • Often they where buried with their belongings to take to the afterlife
