IMPACT

  • The impact of the fire effected so Many people the bushfire happen at dangerous weather conditions and 173 people died where as 414 people were injured as the result of the fire, 3,500 Buildings and 2,029 house were destroyed in the fire

EXPLANATION

  • A week before the fires, an exceptional heatwave affected southeastern 7th of February Australia. From 28–, Melbourne broke records by sweltering through three consecutive days above 43 °C (109 °F), with the temperature peaking at 45.1 °C (113.2 °F) on 30 January, the third hottest day in the city's history.

EYE WITNESS ACCOUNT

  • A witness has described watching balls of flames hitting trees as the bushfires passed over his house on Black Saturday.
  • Peter Newman is the second lay witness to appear before the Royal Commission into Victoria's Bushfires.He told the commission that he and his wife sheltered an acquaintance and his two-year-old daughter who had already lost their home, as the bushfire approached Buxton, north-east of Melbourne.

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE

  • Responses to the Black Saturday bushfires included immediate community response, donations and later, international aid efforts, Government inquiries including a Royal Commission and recommendations and discussions from a wide variety of bodies, organisations, authorities and communities. Several of these responses are currently ongoing as of September 2009.
