The Sand Creek Massacre happened in November 1864

WHERE IT HAPPENED

The location of the sand creek massacre was Kiowa county, Colorado

WHY IT HAPPENED

  • The government attacked because of the retaliation of another attack
  • The US wanted native territory
  • Mr. Chivington got drunk the some soldiers and ordered the attack

HOW IT AFFECTED THE NATIVES

  • It was a horrible attack that killed lots of good people
  • It was a bad move for the US because they made other tribes mad and they killed a peaceful tribe.

FACTS

  • The natives wanted peace with the Americans
  • The natives hung an American flag in the camp
  • As the attack started the natives surrendered and waved the white flag but the US kept attacking
  • 2/3 of the casualties were women and children
