  • The history of California began about 16000 years ago.
  • The first Native American arrived there
  • California Indians had 500 distinct sub-tribes or groups, each consisting of 50 to 500 individual members,and population was about 300,000.

  • California Indian never developed agriculture because the temperate climate and easy access to food sources.

Spanish Explorers

  • Spanish explorers arrived on California's coasts as early as the mid-16th century.
  • In 1769, first Spanish Franciscan missionary came to California.
  • They build 21 mission in California, then Native American's life style was changed.
  • A lot of Native American died by new diseases.
