Aztec Facts

  • Aqueducts are twin pipes that bring fresh water to Tenochtitlan.
  • The Aztecs were located in what is now Mexico city
  • Chinampas are called floating gardens. They fed all of the Aztecs.
  • The Aztecs were able to conquer other tribes around them.
  • Sacrifice was done to make the gods happy. A warrior was captured from another tribe and stabbed and had their heart taken out.
  • The Aztecs were from 1200 CE to 1500 CE. That was only 300 years.
  • Tenochtitlan was the chief city of the Aztecs.

Maya facts

  • The Maya burned the land and grew corn on top of it. People call it slash and burn.
  • Classic Period is the period when the Maya were able to build fascinating things.
  • Chichen Itza is a Mayan city in northern Yucatan Peninsula.
  • Two Mayan major cities were Tikal and Chichen Itza.
  • Mayan kings were known as Semi-divine because they were know as half god.
  • The Mayans lasted from 1000 BCE to 1500 CE. That is 2500 years.
  • Stelae are large Mayan upright stone monuments.
  • Pok-a-tok is a game played by the Maya with a 16 pound rubber ball.
  • Tikal is an important Mayan city in the southern Yucatan Peninsula.
  • The hero Twins are a creation myth of the Maya. The two brothers outsmart the gods of the underworld and become the sun and the moon.

Inca Facts

  • Llamas and Alpacas were used to transport people one place to another. They were also used for record keeping.
  • The Incas lived in a cold dry climate.
  • Francisco Pizzaro was a Spanish conquistador. He kidnapped the Inca king and killed him.
  • Terrace farming was a type of farming that created flat lands on a steep hill to grow crops.
  • A suspenion is a bridge made from twisted ropes of plants.
  • Machu Picchu is a sacred city built at 8,000 feet above sea level.
  • The children of the sun was a name given to the Incas.The Incan were the sun god's children. That was what they belived.
  • Mummy bundles are bundles of Incan people who have died.
  • The Inca lived with high elevation. This was the reason for cold temperatures.
  • Sapa Inca was the Emperor of the Incas considered to be the sun god, Inti.
  • Atahualpa Inca was the Incan ruler who was captured by Francisco Pizzaro and killed.
  • The location of the Incan Empire is the western south America, including the Andes mountains.
  • Quipus are the ways Inca's keep track of important records using colored cords and knot;Incans did not have a method of writing; This took place of writing.
