NATIONAL RECOVERY ADMINISTRATION (NRA)

ESTABLISHED IN:

JUNE OF 1933 AS PART OF THE NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL RECOVERY ACT

PURPOSE:

  • The NRA's purpose was to help companies recover during the Great Depression by:
  • 1. Eliminating unfair trade practices.
  • 2. Reducing unemployment rates.
  • 3. Establishing minimum wages and maximum working hours.

WHO IT AFFECTED/BENEFITED:

  • Companies- The NRA helped them recover during the Great Depression.
  • Workers- The NRA set up minimum wages, and set maximum hours of work.
  • People without jobs- The NRA reduced unemployment rates, so more people got jobs.

SUCCESSUL OR UNSUCCESSFUL:

  • The NRA was successful.
  • In some industries, the NRA improved labor conditions.
  • The NRA also helped in the Unionization movement.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TODAY:

  • The NRA is not around today.
  • The NRA ended in May of 1935 because the Supreme Court invalidated it.
