FACTS ABOUT NARCOTICS

  • Narcotics are a drug that are medically used to relieve intense pain and suppress coughs. They are usually extracted from opium poppy’s and known as opiates. These include opium, morphine, heroin, and codeine. Others are are manufactured in labs.
  • The first two narcotics (Heroin/Morphine) were used as pain depressants in WWII. And are now used illegally.
  • Their short term effects include feelings of intense euphoria, relaxation and well being.
  • The Drugs take away feelings of hunger and pain so users can suffer from malnutrition.

HEROIN

  • Heroin is an extremely powerful frug that is used to take away intense pain and make you sleep. It crates a very large high that can last for large periods of time.
  • It often slows down your heart rate and breathing.
  • When it is mixed with tobacco or marijuana it can be smoked.
  • Some effects are that you can receive Skin infections, poor hygiene, Ulcers and sores, you can suffer from malnutrition, Blood poisoning and Mood swings. You can also suffer from Collapsed veins, heart infections and liver/kidney disease.

MORPHINE

  • Morphine was developed from the opium plant in the 1900’s.
  • It was used as a painkiller for intense and excruciating pain. It was injected when injured fatally or during surgery.
  • It was first popularized during WWII by war medics dealing with wounded soldiers.
  • They would often give a soldier morphine to knock them out as they die. This is from of the drugs severeness.
  • Like Heroin it makes the users heart beat and breathing slow dow, and make them pass out.

T & R

  • T and R stands for Talwin (a pain killer) and Ritalin (a legal, controlled drug used for hyperactivity)
  • When would put the two together is creates something like a poor mans heroin. Users melt the two ingredients and inject the liquid created.
  • It is very easy to overdose on it making it even more dangerous.
  • Ritalin can be overdosed alone, children who use the drug can crush and sniff it and so can adults.

DILAUDID

  • Dilaudid is a brand name for hydromorphone.
  • It is a powerful painkiller that is normally prescribed to those who suffer from cancer, heart attacks, or surgery.
  • It usually is in the form of a small yellow, orange and green tablets marked with the letter K in the middle. It is also in a liquid form.
  • It produces intense pleasure while blocking pain. Short term effects include anxiety, restlessness, lethargy, nausea, vomiting, slowed breathing, sweating, constipation, urinating and itchy skin.
  • Long term effects include moodiness, severe constipation, lung problems, and menstruel problems.

OXYCONTIN

  • OxyContin is a drug prescribed to patients with ongoing pain. It contained a strong narcotic that is similar to morphine (oxyxodone)
  • Even though it is for purely medicinal purposes is can be abused by those who use it strictly to get high.
  • It is intended to be swallowed whole but by abusers it is crushed or chewed. When crushed is can be snorted or injected to get an instant high.
  • Large amounts of this drug can be fatal. Symptoms are, Slow breathing, seizures, dizziness, weakness, comas and confusion.
